Study abroad 2014-2015

Reflective Narrative: Studying abroad was one of the most important times in my life. It has been a dream of mine to travel to Japan for most of my life. To learn more about where my Cousin and Aunt were born and where some of my favorite foods and entertainment are created. I had no idea what to expect, part of me was doubtful I would ever make it this far, there are many people from my hometown: Oakland, CA that haven't left the city much less the country. In coming to Japan my world view changed, the view of myself and who I was changed as far as who I was and what I was capable of.
I learned that everyday was a learning opportunity. Even if it's extremely difficult I found it incredibly rewarding more rewarding than anything I have ever done. I improved my relationship with myself. I grew as a person and I became more proficient in the language!
I got to reconnect with my family members living there and have them show me things I have dreamed about. You can find some of my journey documented here: 1
I left with a dream accomplished but a new dream took it's place: To return with more knowledge of myself and the country and show my friends and family that they can chase their dreams. I hope that I can inspire people with this journey.
